Product Description

If you are looking for a hands-free method of creating authentic fresh Italian pasta maybe the new Popeil Pasta Maker will help. The Popeil Pasta Maker has been around for a while, but now there is a new model from Ronco. One product to help you create tasty homemade pasta but without too much participation on your part. It leaves you more time to get creative with a tasty pasta sauce!

With an automatic pasta making machine you simply load up the ingredients and press 'mix', then once the dough is formed press 'ext' to extrude the pasta into your preferred shape. You receive all the glory for creating homemade pasta while the machine does all the hard work for you! Automatic Pasta Machines make an interesting gift idea for cooks too.

This model can also be used to make sausages at home, a good way to ensure healthy ingredients in your kids favorite foods.

New Popeil Pasta Maker Specification

The motorised counter-top machine uses a quite electric motor to both mix and extrude your fresh pasta and sausages. Included with the device are ten dies to create different pasta shapes, or indeed to create cookies and biscuits. Pasta cutters included will help you create: angel hair, fettuccine, gnocchi, lasagna, linguine, macaroni, rigatoni, spaghetti, tagliatelle and vermicelli pasta.

A measuring cup, pasta fork and recipe book are also included, with full instructions on how to create the best homemade pasta you can. For those considering creating sausages too, a sausage horn and casing are included too.

Much of the machine is dishwasher safe (everything apart from the motor base), continuing the 'hands off' approach to pasta making at home!

The Popeil Pasta Maker makes and interesting and useful addition to any kitchen where pasta (or indeed sausages) are enjoyed. Using a machine to mix and shape pasta dough is not for everyone as many would feel the end result more personal and unique when created by hand. But, with most of what we consume made at least in part mechanically there are many that find the automatic pasta machine a great innovation for the home cook. After all, the key point is knowing what ingredients are used in home-cooked food, and machine or no machine you can ensure only top quality products go into your homemade pasta.

Forget the Instructions

I recently bought one of these pasta makers. The instructions were horrendous. I either had a drop of water too much or a pinch of flour too much. The pasta was either too dry to extrude or so full of moisture that it came out in a lump. I was breaking the dyes right and left. I used a basic pasta recipe called Trenette: 2 1/2 cups unbleached-all purpose flour, 1/2 cup semolina flour, 1 teaspoon fine sea (kosher)salt, 2 large eggs, and 1/2 cup filtered water. Using sea (kosher) salt and filtered or bottled water are very important. The sea salt enhances the taste of the pasta greatly, and I found that ordinary tap water left an undesirable aftertaste. You will find that this dough is very elastic and not as yellow as the basic recipe for pasta. I first put the eggs, water, and salt in a food processor and mixed the ingredients thoroughly. I then added the semolina flour with the food processor still running. Next, I added the unbleached flour a tablespoon at a time until the dough formed a ball and was rolling around inside the food processor with the sides of the bowl remaining clean. I then took it out and kneaded it a couple minutes, and put it in a covered bowl in a warm place and let it rest for 5 minutes. I then put it in the pasta maker and after it had kneaded about 5 minutes, I let it extrude. I came out easy with great texture and consistency. I have eaten a lot of pasta in my days, but this was the best that I have ever eaten. Good luck and enjoy.
Excellent for Beginners

If you have never made fresh pasta this is a good place to start. If you follow these hints You will absolutly adore this machine.
1. Follow directions when you take it out of the box. If you make the required 6!!! half batches!!! Your dies will not break.
2.Small Fresh Eggs are best and during the "Counter Clockwise Mixing" (only 1 min.!)none of the mix went into the hopper and it formed sort of a chopped nut look. Then in the "Clockwise extruder" portion the hopper filled up neatly and the pasta came out as if it was the TV commercial.(5 min for half batch - 8 min for full).
3. The measureing Container is most important when filled correctly to the correct line we have not had a bad batch. But beware a little short of the Durum Semolina and the Motor will tell you you did it wrong as it will be LOUD. Also if you use old eggs( not quite starts to float)of extra large/ Jumbo as it makes the dough heavy and harder to extrude. We have had better results if we beat the eggs well and then add it to the container - add the tablespoon of good olive oil, 1/2 tsp of salt, fill to the line with cold filtered water (unless you like the taste of your tapwater) You are then supposed to shake but I'm not that trusting of the plastic lid that slides over the top of the container. Turn on the mixer then drizzle in the liquid in the port hole provided again just takes a minuit.
4. Remember it is plastic not Metal and not a Kitchen Aid. Because it comes out so nice and cleans easily and Fast, make only what you need for that meal - most pastas will not need a drying rack due to the fan located at the bottom - and if you want pasta for a week or party of 20 go get one of the hand cranks. Because after the 4th continious batch the machine got kinda cranky. Then again I was asking it to do more than it was built for. For my family this was the best buy for the money. Good for teaching Teenagers to pay attention to detail. And for some to watch it work does provide a little entertaiment.
Happily using it for ten years

I bought one for a friend that konked out after a year but I've had mine over 10 years and once you get the hang of how it works, it does work like a charm.
A great little machine

I have had this for a while now. I actually love it! It takes some getting used to. Once you get the consistency right (watch the video and practice), it makes great home made pasta. I also have a metal roller, it makes a finer texture pasta than the machine (the pressing works the semolina better), but for a quick home made pasta (and definitely less messy!!), this is great!!! Bottom line, if you like home made pasta, this is a great little machine to have.
I love this machine!
